This video was recorded by my mobile phone during one of the SBL basketball matches on 7/9/2014. It showed I got an unsportsmanlike foul during the fast break offense. I made contact by the defensive player from laterally to stop the fast break and there is no defensive player between me and the opponent’s basket. I got the ball in and 1 free throw was added as the penalty. I would like to explain what is Unsportsmanlike foul to you.
According to Art 37 of 2014 FIBA Official Basketball Rules,
Unsportsmanlike foul
37.1. Definition
37.1.1. An unsportsmanlike foul is a player contact foul which, in the judgement of an official is:
37.2. Penalty
37.2.1. An unsportsmanlike foul shall be charged against the offender.
37.2.2. Free throw(s) shall be awarded to the player who was fouled, followed by:
The number of free throws shall be awarded as follows:
37.2.3. A player shall be disqualified for the remainder of the game when he is charged with 2 unsportsmanlike fouls.
37.2.4. If a player is disqualified under Art. 37.2.3, the unsportsmanlike foul shall be the only foul to be penalized and no additional penalty for the disqualification shall be administered.
In my case, I shoot the ball and made the goal, so i got 1 free throw in addition and my team got the inbounds pass at the centre line extended, opposite the scorer’s table after the free throw.
In my opinion, playing basketball has a lot of body contact, we should do enough warm up, mentally and physically prepared to prevent injuries. Injury is really hurt to a player.
